Contxto – Valiu—a Colombian-Venezuelan startup that helps people send money to Venezuela—is officially announcing the testing of a new partnership with Rappi.

Interestingly enough, this partnership isn’t your usual consumer-facing integration. Instead this one targets the rappitenderos (delivery people) themselves.

Rappizuela

Contrary to what many of us experience in Mexico—where most Rappi deliverers are Mexicans— in South American countries such as Ecuador, Peru, Chile, Colombia, and Argentina, most deliverers are of Venezuelan-origins.

And, since Venezuelans make the majority of Rappi’s delivery workforce, Valiu’s service of sending money from Colombia and other countries to Venezuela, makes a lot of sense. Although Rappi won’t disclose the number of Venezuelan workers they have, Simon Chamorro, Valiu’s founder believes that at least 80 percent of their fleet is Venezuelan.

Being from Venezuela himself, Chamorro knows the current hardships of the population. Many managed to move to other countries, nevertheless, some family members remained there. For this reason, there’s a huge need in terms of remittances and sending money back and forth among Latin American countries.

It is interesting to note that Rappi’s massive growth correlates positively with Venezuela’s increased low-income, jobless mass emigration. Many could not help but wonder if it’s not just correlation, but causation of the scaleup’s growth.

All things aside, Rappi has become a huge opportunity for people to earn money with nothing but a bike and a smartphone. And now, this new partnership may create better alternatives for deliverers to handle their hard-earned money.

More features for ‘em

In what seems to be a minimum viable product (MVP), Rappi will be launching notifications, banner ads, and communications to promote Valiu’s services over the deliverers-exclusive app.

If it ends up being a feature in demand, it could eventually find its way into a more formal integration (although this is not confirmed, for allegedly Rappi has a lot of projects and new features in the pipeline).

What’s interesting is that this could eventually become an in-app functionality for consumers.

And considering the fact that Valiu’s plans include an expansion, both in terms of geography and features, which we’ll get to know in the upcoming months, we could soon see the content of this article getting longer.
