Contxto – Argentina continues to place high bets on blockchain as the Río Negro Lottery will implement the dawning technology in a pilot for streamlined administration and optimal security.
Keep in mind, this blockchain collab with Os City won’t apply to slot machines or direct financial transactions in this Northern Patagonia province, but rather behind-the-scene matters.
As per usual, the desire is to foster more transparency and security in old institutions. According to Julián Arceo, director of the ArgenBTC exchange, with this will come the utmost audibility and traceability. Resulting from this, it will guarantee that information can’t be altered.
“The implementation of the blockchain will be done at the administrative level for internal procedures, such as the appointment of authorities, appointment of positions, movement of funds and traceability of the awards,” said Mr Arceo to El Economista.
“All this will make the organization’s information more transparent, but for the moment, it will not be used in games.”
“It will serve as a kind of auditor or digital notary, certifying that no one modified the information,” said Lucas Jolías, director of the firm Os City. “Also, it implies that nobody can erase it because once you register the information, it cannot be altered.”
Similarly, Venezuelan authorities announced plans in August to launch the Zulia blockchain-lottery network. However, that is still a work in progress, meaning gamblers won’t be able to place bets or pay for prizes with Bitcoin and Petros. What this means is that this effort in Río Negro could be the first of its kind in Latin America.
Links in the Blockchain network
All the while, it is still unclear how this experiment will take shape. Especially, regarding which nodes Río Negro officials intend to apply. By nodes, we mean the infrastructure of blockchain networks.
For example, any computer on the Ethereum network and compliant with all of its rules is a Full Node. With this, users can download the entire blockchain on their desktop in a secure manner.
Whichever operating system Río Negro ends up using, this could very well be the future of the lottery.
