Barely a year old, the Chilean startup is making steady progress in the business that its very name suggests: Examedi (“exámenes médicos,” Spanish for “medical exams”). However, the acronym does not include an essential part: its main feature is that it offers them at home, eliminating the bureaucracy associated with them, such as requiring intermediaries, like clinics. Examedi—through technology— connects health professionals directly with patients and then analyzes the samples in established laboratories.
Its most recent news is the raising of US$17 million in a Series A led by General Catalyst, a move that adds to the US$3.5 million seed funding it received after having gone through the Y Combinator accelerator in 2021. It previously went through the regional Platanus Ventures.

Its CEO and founder, Ian Lee (21), who has been programming since he was 14 and at 18 was Houm‘s software engineer, said in a statement that they want to be “the health partner” of every family in LatAm and also celebrated the recent round. “We are very happy to have General Catalyst as a lead investor because our mission of prioritizing quality, at-home, affordable healthcare totally aligns with them.”
Examedi will use the funding in product development, especially B2B solutions, to further advance through LatAm. They already operate in Chile and Mexico and plan to reach other countries.
