The platform Pharma B2B SaaS Leucine, co-founded by Vivek Gera and Mustaq Singh Bijral in 2019, has successfully raised USD$7 million in a Series A funding round.

Ecolab led the investment, with participation from Pravega Ventures, Axilor Ventures, Techstars, and other contributors.

Leucine acts as a transformative force in the pharmaceutical manufacturing sector, assisting its clients in areas such as batch planningmodernization of archaic processes, and transition from paper records to digital formats.

Additionally, the company provides valuable information through a comprehensive analytics panel.

As part of this significant funding event, Leucine introduced the beta launch of Leucine 10x, an AI-based framework designed to function as a co-pilot in pharmaceutical manufacturing processes.

The company reports successfully implementing its solutions in over 300 pharmaceutical product manufacturing facilities across 10 countries, including the United States, India, Brazil, and Mexico.

Among Leucine’s primary clients are Cadila, Dr. Reddy’s, and Cipla.

In the past year, Leucine has nearly doubled the number of manufacturing facilities adopting its product. Most of this expansion comes from the United States and India.

This significant Series A investment will enable Leucine to enhance its market exit strategy, strengthen its AI capabilities, and expand its specialized team, further solidifying its position as a vital player in the pharmaceutical manufacturing industry.

Healthtech Ecosystem Growing in LATAM

In recent years, Latin American startups focused on health technologies have seen more significant growth and investment than any other ecosystem, such as Fintech, SaaS, and Proptech, according to LATAM Tech Report figures.

In 2021 alone, the Healthcare sector saw a yearly financing increase of 4,700%, contrasting with the 1,800% growth of the general startup ecosystem.

One of the factors that has fueled the growth of Healthcare startups is that throughout the Latin American region, the healthcare system could be more efficient, and the population has limited access to healthcare services, which are also of low quality or non-existent.

The top 10 Healthcare startups in LATAM in 2022 were Tips Salud, PEBMED, Touch Health, CUCO HEALTH, Dasa, iclinic, Intensicare, Pixeon, Salux, and Wareline, according to the count and analysis by Healthcare Tech Outlook.
