The New York-based venture capital firm, Gilgamesh Ventures, announced that it has launched a US$9.5 million fund. It is available to invest in fintech companies in the United States and Latin America.

The venture capital fund is led by Andrew Endicott, from the United States, and Miguel Armaza, from Bolivia. Since 2020, they have focused on investing in early stage companies in the sector.

“We started Gilgamesh to help fintech founders build great companies in the US and LatAm. We are fintech specialists and founders,” the fund’s founders mentioned in a statement.

Thus, Gilgamesh Ventures will aim for follow-up checks from pre-seed to Series A rounds, although they will also participate in later rounds for certain companies.

How Are Its Investments Going So Far?

So far, Gilgamesh Ventures has invested more than US$2.7 million in 16 companies. 12 of them Latin American based in Sao Paulo, Mexico City, Santiago, Buenos Aires, Rio de Janeiro, and Belo Horizonte, Armaza told Contxto. “We will soon be adding more countries, and cities,” he said.

Of this capital, 86% of its investments include diverse founders and 20% to female founders.

Some of the companies it has invested in are Klar, Pomelo, Xepelin, Simplist, Divibank, Frontrunner, Glean, Nexu, Palenca, Reworth and Tarken.

Gilgamesh Ventures is backed by Peter Fernandez (99), Marcelo Lima (monashees), Ignacio Canals (Migrante), multiple family offices, NOA Capital of Mexico, Encore Bank and Foundation Capital.

The fund will not only help raise capital (debt and equity), but also link with associations and media outlets. “Our goal is for our contributions to exceed the size of our checks, and we believe we consistently achieve that,” Armaza also mentioned.
