Contxto – Chilean project management startup, Cotalker, is the latest to speed up the release of a new product due to the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic. Although surprisingly, it’s not adding features to its workflow software.

Instead, it launched AguCare, a telemedicine platform where users can consult with a medical specialist through an online chat system or video conference. This platform also relies on artificial intelligence (AI) to get patient screening done, as well as encryption to ensure the utmost patient privacy.

As of last Wednesday (8), the platform and its 50 registered medical practitioners are ready to assist patients.

For Cotalker, AguCare isn’t a quick fix

Some startups have launched features or products that specifically tender to the ongoing healthcare crisis. This, however, is not Cotalker’s case.

While online consultations through AguCare are free for patients potentially infected with Covid-19, within the first 30 days of its launch. However, users will be charged for consulting its doctors for unrelated diseases or chatting with specialists.

The AI component comes into the equation through AguCare’s bots. It will ask users questions regarding their symptoms before assigning them a turn with the corresponding medical practitioner.

As far as future developments go, Cotalker has plenty of plans for its new platform.

It will connect AguCare to its online pharmaceutical system, Fracciona. That way, after receiving their prescription, they can easily find the necessary medication there. This digital drugstore also offers a last-mile delivery service.

All of this means that patients won’t have to leave home to get the attention and meds they urgently need.

Connecting the telemedicine dots

Do you see where Cotalker is going with all of this? No doubt it aspires to become a one-stop for patients in digital solutions for healthcare.

It may seem an ambitious thing to do (and it is!). Nonetheless, such a feat can more easily be achieved when startups build over their pre-existing products.

In Cotalker’s case, it already offered videoconferencing and chat solutions for project management. It only tweaked it for a different audience and industry with AguCare.

“Out-of-the-box thinking” is an excessively used concept in the world of startups, but it’s so for a good reason. Entrepreneurs should seek ways to develop their current products and services in creative ways as this Chilean startup did.

It’s more economic than starting from scratch and certainly much faster to accomplish.
