Contxto – Brazilian startups like The Bridge, got two birds with one stone through the Brazilian Agency for Industrial Development (ABDI, for its acronym in Portuguese).
For one, they raised funding through this organization. Moreover, the ABDI—through its National Connection Startup Industry 4.0 Program—played wing-man and connected them with relevant large-sized enterprises.
Note that this 4.0 Program was carried out in December of last year. However, work is still underway between matched startups and companies.
ABDI makes the necessary connections
In broad terms, through this initiative, startups benefit by working closely with well-established firms to develop pilot projects. There’s also the possibility that they sell their products to these major industries and companies.
Likewise, for the companies in ABDI’s program, the advantage is it gives them a better understanding of participating startups’ needs in their relationship.
In any case, it never ceases to amaze me all the approaches there are for companies to innovate by connecting with startups. But that’s not all the ABDI has been up to.

On April 16, this organization alongside the National Service for Industrial Learning (SENAI) and the Company Brazilian Industrial Research and Innovation (Embrapii) launched a joint initiative to take on coronavirus (Covid-19). Through it, the parties sought startups and projects with solutions to tender to vulnerable populations affected by the pandemic.
And according to a recent blog post, 25 projects have already been chosen to receive funding from a R$24.5 million (around US$4.4 million) pot.
