ICAR, a Chilean company specializing in digital solutions, has introduced an innovative mobile application that has earned the title of “the country’s first digital document holder” for motor vehicles. This app, compatible with Android and iOS operating systems, is backed by current legislation in Chile and allows users to carry the most essential documents of their vehicles, either online or offline.

For decades, drivers have stored the mandatory documents they must carry with them in their car glove compartments or the trunk. However, ICAR has taken a significant step toward digital transformation with the creation of icarwallet, a pioneering digital solution in Chile that aims to change the way users manage their vehicle documentation.

How does icarwallet work?

This mobile app is available for free download in both the PlayStore and the AppStore. To start using it, users only need to download it and enter an email address to complete the registration process. Once registered, they have the ability to add one or more documents related to their vehicles.
The company has highlighted that its technological solutions are used by major car brands such as Toyota, Chevrolet, Citroën, Peugeot, KIA Motors, Nissan, MG, and Subaru.

What documents can be managed with icarwallet?

The application allows users to carry the four fundamental documents required by Chilean law for each vehicle: Vehicle Registration, Technical Inspection or approved certificate, Compulsory Insurance (SOAP) and Circulation Permit.
It’s important to note that, in June 2013, the Comptroller General of the Republic of Chile issued Resolution N° 37,361, confirming the legality of carrying, in digital format, the circulation permit and the compulsory insurance for motor vehicles (SOAP). In fact, the legal system recognizes the validity and effects of electronic documents in the same way as those issued on paper.

According to the National Institute of Statistics of Chile, in 2022, a total of 6,251,852 circulation permits were processed in the Andean country, representing a vast market where ICAR can venture and develop its application according to users’ needs.

ICAR recognized the abundance of information related to vehicles, both new and used, that was available. At the same time, they noticed a growing trend toward digitizing automotive documents and the need to reduce paper use in this area. These two factors inspired the creation of the mobile app that centralizes all car documents, intending to simplify and guarantee security in the management of these documents.

This ICAR application reaffirms a digitalization trend in Chile, as this year transactions with digital wallets in the country increased by 530%, reflecting a paradigm shift among the inhabitants.
