Howdy.com, the U.S.-based tech startup focused on connecting Latin American IT specialists with the U.S. market, has announced the acquisition of GeekHunter. This Brazilian firm provides hiring services in the technology sector. This move aligns with Howdy.com’s previously announced investment plan of USD $5 million for 2021, aimed at hiring 500 engineers by the end of the year.
GeekHunter, founded in 2015 by Tomás and Celso Ferrari, operates a marketplace with over 13,000 registered companies and 400,000 candidates. Profiles selected through this platform will be integrated into development teams in the United States and could earn salaries of up to USD $10,000 per month.
Jacqueline Samira, CEO and Founder of Howdy.com cited the growing need for technological talent in the United States as one of the factors behind the acquisition. GeekHunter specializes in hiring professionals such as developers, data scientists, designers, and product managers, all with proficiency in English and time zones aligned with the United States.
Howdy.com has closed two investment rounds in the last three months: one of USD $13 million in November 2022 and another of USD $5 million in January 2023. These funds are aimed at the company’s expansion in Latin America.
The company employs over 200 people across various offices in Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Peru, and Uruguay. With projected revenues of USD $35 million next year, Howdy.com plans to continue incorporating new talents in the region.
According to data from Zhou Danjin, President of Huawei Latam and the Caribbean, at the LCA ICT Talent Summit, the Latin American and Caribbean region faces a growing challenge in Information and Communication Technologies (ICT).
It is estimated that there are currently 6.3 million professionals with digital skills in essential and emerging roles in the region. By 2026, the area will need an additional 2.5 million ICT professionals. These figures and projections are based on international consulting firm IDC research.
