Contxto – Brazilian truck drivers are working in a progressively modernizing industry with TruckPad‘s solution. The transportation and logistics technology startup recently revealed 80 roles at its São Paulo headquarters to continue improving the enterprise.

In Summary

TruckPad launched a digital freight marketplace used by both companies and freelance truck drivers in 2013. Things seem to be going well for the startup, made evident by its recent hiring announcement. While growing in the number of truck drivers, it also hopes to grow its team at the São Paulo headquarters.

Most positions are tech-focused, such as Android Developers in Engineering and Digital Media Analysts in Marketing. Other departments with vacancies include human resources, operations, sales, as well as customer service. Full benefits including university assistance or language courses are provided as well.

“Today, we already have a base of more than 1 million truck drivers using our application, which makes us the largest digital cargo marketplace in Latin America,” said CEO and founder Carlos Mira. “We are looking for professionals capable of helping us continue building this success story.”

In-Depth

Mira founded TruckPad after previously working in the cargo transportation and logistics sectors in Brazil. Nowadays, his platform supports truck drivers find legitimate freight jobs over the smartphone application. Vice versa, TruckPad collaborates with companies to hire reliable drivers and optimize freight delivery options.

Many Brazilian truck drivers use TruckPad or other similar applications for the sake of reassurance in an old school industry. Some common complaints range from wasted time seeking freight, low wages, and sometimes untrustworthy companies breaking terms.

With TruckPad, however, drivers receive company assistance, verified loads, a rating system, news updates, among other benefits, in what resembles an Uber-like transaction.

“Like Uber, our proposal is to give the road entrepreneur an economical and efficient way to get his next freight, as well as provide companies with a technological tool to hire,” said Mira.

All the while, TruckPad also has some competition considering major investors like Goldman Sachs are reportedly eyeing out CargoX. Other sources call CargoX the “Uber of trucking” but also TruckPad’s biggest rival. Not only did CargoX raise US$60 million in 2018 but both of these companies’ headquarters are less than 10 minutes away from each other in São Paulo.

TruckPad is still an early stage venture, according to Crunchbase. Mercedes-Benz led investments during an undisclosed Series B round for the startup, back in 2017.
