Paris-based Mistral AI has announced the launch of ‘Mistral Large‘, a new large language model aiming to rival GPT-4 and Claude 2 in reasoning capabilities.
Alongside, the startup unveiled ‘Le Chat‘, its alternative to ChatGPT, available in beta, marking a significant step in competing with leading AI services. Founded in 2023, Mistral AI has quickly garnered attention with substantial funding rounds, raising $528 million within months, thanks to notable investors like Andreessen Horowitz.
Mistral AI diverges from its initial open-source model, now offering ‘Mistral Large’ via a paid API, adopting a business model similar to OpenAI’s. The cost-effective pricing at $8 per million input tokens and $24 per million output tokens positions ‘Mistral Large’ as a competitive option, supporting multiple languages including English, French, and Spanish.
The model boasts a 32k token context window, promising versatility and efficiency for developers and businesses.
The launch of ‘Le Chat’ introduces a free-to-use chat assistant, with plans for an enterprise version featuring central billing and moderation mechanisms. In a strategic move, Mistral AI partners with Microsoft to distribute its models through Azure, enhancing its visibility and accessibility.
This collaboration not only diversifies Azure’s AI offerings but also aligns Mistral AI with a major cloud provider, potentially broadening its user base and influence in the AI technology sphere.
