Contxto – The road map for Chilean logistics startup is clear: full speed ahead with its expansion plans.

To that end, it has the fuel to move forward: a recent investment worth US$3 million. Its copilot, or lead investor, on this journey was TheVentureCity. This is SimpliRoute’s Series A round and through it, a number of endeavors await.

To boost its growth in Europe and the US, it will improve its AI-powered logistics platform. The startup shall also hire engineers and sales reps across multiple countries in the region including Brazil, Argentina, and Colombia.

SimpliRoute’s headcount currently stands at 47 staff members. But thanks to its equity round, they expect to become a 65-person team.

SimpliRoute’s AI approach to logistics

Last-mile delivery and logistics platforms have been under a lot of pressure in recent months. Startups and deliverers must deal with ever-changing regulations to move about on the streets. Plus, they’re dealing with high request volumes.

These factors brew the perfect storm for human errors to happen: from the wrong order being delivered to mislabeling cargo. But that’s also where artificial intelligence (AI) can make a big difference.

Startups like SimpliRoute are developing systems that optimize delivery routes and cargo management through machine learning. And as more logistics businesses emerge, this type of technology may separate the winners from the losers in the B2B (business to business) market. Here’s how.

At some point, it will become insufficient for a platform to complete deliveries for companies. Instead, corporations and e-business owners will want data to better understand their customers as well as for that data to be interpreted so they can strategize accordingly.

Platforms that soak in that information, and have systems that can explain those data points are offering a valuable commodity.

In any case, it will be critical that logistics startups build their treasure troves of information as well as rope in the best data science and machine learning engineers.
