Rappi’s latest venture is a gamble

Don't worry, we speak : Español (Spanish), too!

Contxto – On Monday (6) the Colombian unicorn announced it partnered with major bookies in Colombia like BetPlay, Rivalo, and MegaApuesta.

Turns out, Rappi’s flavor of the week this time around is gambling. Consequently, users in Colombia who are 18 years or older can place their bets or pull out their money with these gambling houses via the Rappi app under the Rappiapuestas feature.

For now, the service is only available for iOS users. However, a browser and Android version will be launched soon.

Rappi’s bets

To make the experience a more fluid one, Rappiapuestas shall be linked to the startup’s RappiPay service. That way, users can more easily move their money in or out into gambits without having to leave the Rappi app.

Like other parties that have partnered with the Colombian unicorn as of late, bookies’ interest in the startup stems from its large user base.

“With this new channel, not only do we provide a friendly and familiar experience to users, but we also find an ally to grow within the industry by connecting with current and potential users in one single place,” says Alvaro Mosquera, Country Manager of Rivalo.

The partners also state their team-up will grant a layer of transparency to gambling and deter money-laundering and other illicit activities. And that’s true enough… but gambling is still gambling no matter how you sugar coat it.
