How to contribute useful content for Contxto

At Contxto, we are dedicated to highlighting the vibrant and innovative tech and startup ecosystems of Latin America. Our mission is to provide insightful, engaging, and actionable content that helps our readers stay ahead in this fast-evolving landscape. We welcome contributions from experts, thought leaders, and practitioners who share our passion for innovation and entrepreneurship.

We cover a wide range of topics, including technology, startups, venture capital, business strategy, leadership, diversity and inclusion, and emerging trends.

Usefulness Makes a Great Story for Contxto

Contxto stories focus on helping people building the transformative impact of technology, startups, and innovation in Latin America.

We are looking for content that:

  • Useful: Offer clear, practical advice or steps that readers can implement. Ensure your content provides real value with tangible takeaways.
  • Specific: Provide detailed insights rather than broad overviews. For example, instead of “The Future of Fintech,” consider “How Fintech is Revolutionizing Remittances in Latin America.”
  • Provocative: Present fresh perspectives that challenge conventional thinking. Introduce new ideas that provoke thought and discussion.
  • Relevant: Address topics significant to our audience. Focus on issues and trends that matter to the Latin American tech and startup community.
  • Insightful: Share unique insights drawn from your experience. Provide valuable takeaways that only you can offer.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Strong Angles: Stories that provide new insights or show an unexpected side effect of a tech trend.
  • Intersection with Other Fields: How technology intersects with business, health, politics, culture, etc.
  • Narrative Backbone: A clear story with a central chronology and main characters.

What We’re Not Looking For:

  • Opinion pieces or personal reactions to news.
  • Executive op-eds.
  • Stories that have been published elsewhere.

By adhering to these guidelines, you can create online articles that are not only useful but also engaging and impactful for our readers.

How to Pitch:

Here is an example of pitch to give you a better idea.

  1. Craft Your Pitch: Your pitch should clearly and concisely convey the story you plan to write and why it matters. Include a reporting plan and an estimated word count. If your story depends on access to a person or company, indicate whether you have obtained it or your prospects of doing so.
  2. Format: Put your pitch in the body of your email, not as an attachment.
  • Detail: Include your name, job title, and any relevant background information. Link to similar stories you’ve done in the past.
  • Specificity: Avoid pitching broad topics; focus on specific stories with detailed angles.
  • Send Your Pitch: Email your pitch to [email protected] with “Contributor Pitch” in the subject line. Include the section you’re targeting (e.g., tech, startups, business).
  1. Wait for Feedback: We try to respond to every pitch. If you don’t hear back within two weeks, feel free to follow up or resubmit. A rejection is not the end; continue to submit new ideas.

Editorial Process:

  • Collaboration: All accepted stories go through a collaborative editorial process. Expect feedback on everything from word choice and sentence structure to the substance of your argument and the evidence you use to support it.
  • Deadlines: Be prepared to meet agreed deadlines. We have our own calendar to manage, and timely submissions help ensure a smooth process.
  • Final Edits and Publication: We retain final editorial control to ensure your piece aligns with our standards and audience expectations. Titles may be adjusted for maximum impact.

Rights:

  • By submitting, you grant Contxto the right to publish your work first. You retain ownership of your ideas and can republish elsewhere after two weeks, with appropriate credit and link to Contxto.

Promote Your Work:

Once published, we’ll promote your piece across our platforms, including direct emails, push notifications, and social media. Share your work widely while respecting our paywall policies. After two weeks, you can repost the full piece with a link back to the original on Contxto.

Our Audience:

Our readers are the smartest VCs, founders, and business leaders. You must pitch and develop a story that our audience will find interesting, and not just look for press release distribution or SEO benefits.

Regular Columnists:

  • Commitment: As a Contxto columnist, you are expected to deliver between 6 and 12 columns per year. This ensures a steady stream of insightful content for our readers.
  • Focus: Your columns should share insights and thought-provoking ideas, not self-promotion. Your personal profile will be included, but the main content must avoid self-promotional language.
  • Length: Ideally, columns should be a minimum of 800 words, with a recommended maximum of 2,500 words.
