In a significant development to enrich the gaming landscape in Latin America, the creation of a new event called Gamescom Latam has been announced, resulting from the collaboration between Gamescom and the BIG Festival.
This inaugural event, scheduled to take place in São Paulo, Brazil, from June 26 to June 30, 2024, promises to provide an immersive gaming experience for both fans and industry professionals in Brazil, Latin America, and beyond.
The announcement of Gamescom Latam marks the merging of two giants in the gaming industry: Gamescom and BIG Festival, the latter being recognized for attracting over 50,000 attendees in 2023.
The goal of this collaboration is to elevate the gaming industry by combining the global prominence of Gamescom with the regional influence of BIG Festival, thus creating an unprecedented platform for business and launches in the region.
“The creation of Gamescom Latam corresponds to the recognition by the world’s largest gaming companies of Brazil and Latin America as central territories,” stated Gustavo Steinberg, CEO of BIG.
In a statement sent to GamesBeat, it is noted that, although the BIG Festival will continue as an independent initiative, its main event will take place within Gamescom Latam as one of the content areas of the larger event.
“It is also a significant alignment between two events that already had the same nature: both for Gamescom and BIG Festival, celebrating the world of games and gamer communities by showcasing the latest releases, the best games, and much more to the fans.”
“This is why BIG Festival will continue to exist as one of the areas within Gamescom Latam, attracting the best independent games from around the world as we have been doing since 2012, but now within a platform with much-expanded visibility,” explained the organization in the document.
This strategic partnership is the result of collaboration between key players in the industry, such as Koelnmesse, known for organizing Gamescom in Cologne, Germany, and Gamescom Asia in Singapore, supported by the German Association for the Game Industry with the aim of fostering collaboration throughout the gaming ecosystem.
The union with the BIG Festival, the premier gaming celebration in Latin America, aims to further strengthen this collaborative momentum.
“It will continue to be the indie game competition and awards ceremony. We will continue to select the best games globally and showcase them in the Gamescom Latam BIG Festival area, but now with greater global visibility,” stated the executive.
