Conversational commerce startup AtomChat secures new funding

The infusion of new capital will be used in technology development, as the company will increase its sales by 15% month-on-month.

AtomChat is an AI-based software company that wants to improve sales teams’ performance through WhatsApp messaging. The startup, based in Panama and the US, has secured $3.15 million in a round led by Mucker Capital.

This new capital will be used for AtomChat’s tech development, as the company expects to increase its sales by 15% on a monthly basis.

The company connects ongoing WhatsApp conversations with customer service representatives to streamline communication and boost sales. The messaging app is broadly used across the region. Just Mexico and Brazil comprise about 38% of all WhatsApp users worldwide.

AtomChat is venturing into the promising e-commerce industry in Latin America. For example, according to the company’s own data, about 74% of WhatsApp users in Colombia use the app’s Business feature to shop in more than 30 categories.

While existing e-commerce tools were developed by U.S. companies that think in terms of US consumers, there is still a lagging offer in terms of Latin America’s circumstances. The region’s e-commerce growth bypassed website-based e-commerce transactions and went directly to messaging apps.

Other e-commerce companies with a strong presence in Latin America are leveraging on WhatsApp’s broad penetration. Hotmart, Brazilian digital event company, just announced its integration with the messaging app to improve the buyers’ experience and increase sales.
