Mercado Libre, a leading e-commerce platform, has achieved a logistical milestone this holiday season, processing more than 1.5 million packages with expectations to surpass 2 million by season’s end. Bogotá and Medellín lead in daily shipments, each city contributing over 30,000 deliveries as demand surges.
Key shopping periods like Black Friday and Christmas week have seen as many as 500,000 shipments each, underscoring the season’s heightened activity.
The company credits its success to an expansive logistics network, encompassing 25 distribution centers nationwide, enhanced by artificial intelligence. This infrastructure allows for personalized operations to meet diverse local needs, with delivery times between 24 to 48 hours, setting a competitive standard in rapid shipping.
Santiago Hernández, senior manager of transport at Mercado Libre Colombia, highlights the logistical challenges of meeting holiday expectations, including driver recruitment and infrastructural expansion. Over 2,000 personnel and 1,100 dedicated drivers are mobilized to manage the seasonal demand efficiently.
Furthermore, the company’s strategic use of data forecasting and renewable energy, powering 50% of its operations in Colombia, ensures a sustainable and responsive logistics model capable of adapting to real-time market needs and consumer expectations.
