Claro Peru opens data center valued at USD$50 million

The Tier III data center in Lima will be developed in four stages and an area of 4,000 square meters has been allocated for its construction.
América Móvil's Claro Perú inaugurated the first stage of its Tier III data center in Lima, with an investment valued at US$50 million.

The company Claro Peru, belonging to America Movil, inaugurated the first stage of its Tier III data center in Lima, with an investment valued at USD$50 million.

In this initial phase, a 250m2 Information Technology (IT) room has been put into operation, with a capacity for 104 cabinets, as reported by Claro Peru in a statement.

The supplied energy has certification for renewable energy, secured through a long-term agreement with Luz del Sur, according to the company.

“We are a company that invests in the development of the digital economy of companies and organizations in the public and private sector in Peru, being a benchmark in the digital transformation of businesses in the country,” said Humberto Chávez, general manager of Claro Peru.

On the same day, Claro Colombia inaugurated its renovated data center, during which it launched the first Oracle cloud region in the country.

There is a possibility that the facilities in Lima will host an Oracle cloud region for Peru in the near future.

“For Peru to be part of this is a highly significant milestone in terms of connectivity and development of technological solutions, in addition to allowing us to have a unique offering and ensure the operability of the service beyond our borders,” emphasized the executive.

The opening ceremony, held on Wednesday, also had the presence of the Minister of Transport and Communications, Raúl Pérez Reyes, as well as executives from collaborating companies in the creation of the data center, including Grupo Carso, Huawei, and Equans.

America Movil has a presence in Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Brazil, and Argentina, as well as in Austria and Eastern Europe. After China and India, it is the world’s largest company in terms of mobile subscribers and total accesses.
